Thootha, My homeland, the serene land,
forms the border for the Malappuram and
Palakkad pronvice of God's own country ,
Kerala. It's bestowed with nature's loveliness,
full of greenery and is well ornamented by the
'Thootha' river.
The name fell to the land as it is on the banks
of the river. The Thootha River starts from the
tropical forest (Silent Valley) and is well called
the Kunthi River. It flows to the Bharathapuzha
with all its medicinal and magical effects on
both the banks. When it reaches Thootha, it's
called Thootha River.
A bridge links the two districts, over the
river.Just a walk across the bridge will take you
to both the districts. River a gift to us, as it
won't be dried even in hottest summers. People
do depend on this river. It's the part of the
culture. It's sometime the lively hood for some
people. The fish, 'Vala' is so famous in this part
of the world. The roll stones beneath the river
decorates the aquariums and gardens.
The festival at the each ends of the river,
'Kala vela' and 'Thootha Pooram';are celebrated
as both province's festival. The temple at one
end and the mosque at the other symbolize the
religions harmony of the land.
We are lucky enough to be gifted with
the hills, river and the fertile soil.
We are utilizing it to the full. The Cooperation
of the different ethnic groups stands as the
blessing of the land. People here are so kind
to the fellow beings, the Indigent and Orphan
home started well long ago, is the result of the
hardcore effort of the people to help the needy.
The school under the Orphanage imparts the
educational need of Thootha.
Football is in the blood of thoothites.
In summer the paddy fields becomes the tem
porary play land for the football savvies.We've
got a, club which has acclaimed honor even in
far lands. Peoples make themselves free to
watch the football tournaments including their
club even to the far lands – no matter what
the age is!.
We used to do expeditions to the nature
rich places in Palakkad and Malappuram
whenever we get off time.
